March 2010: Represented plaintiff in a civil case wherein a Crittenden County jury awarded the plaintiff $475,000.00 in damages for breach of contract, breach of employee loyalty, conversion, and breach of a covenant not to compete. July 2010: Represented plaintiff in a Title VII and 42 U.S.C. § 1983 reverse racial discrimination claim in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas. After a four day trial, a jury found for the plaintiff and against the school board on the plaintiff's claims for racial discrimination, constructive discharge and punitive damages, and awarded her $78,825.00. The employee had alleged that she was reassigned to a lesser position because she was one of only two white employees. August 2010: Represented the Executor of an Estate who sought to recover monies converted from an elderly Alzheimer's patient by her grand-daughter. After a two day trial, a Crittenden County jury awarded the Estate $75,000.00 in damages. October 2011: Represented the defendant contractor in a case wherein an Arkansas church sought $1.3 million in damages for construction deficiencies after completion of their new church building. After almost five days of mediation, the parties reached a settlement wherein the defendant agreed to pay just over thirteen percent of the amount being sought by the plaintiff. February 28, 2012: Sharon Y. Sanders v. Lee County School District, 669 F.3d 888 (8th Cir., 2012). In a published opinion, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit reverses the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas and reinstates the jury's verdict on Sander's constructive discharge claim, and remanded the case to retry the issue of punitive damages and to determine the proper amount of attorney fees based on the outcome of the appeal. After remand, the parties settled for an amount well in excess of the original jury award. April 2014: Represented a defendant accused of Domestic Battery by Strangulation, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Aggravated Assault in the Circuit Court of Leon County, Florida. Defendant faced up to 25 years for each count. After a jury trial that continued for 18 straight hours, the jury returned a verdict of NOT GUILTY on all counts. November 2017: Prevailed in an appeal by the plaintiff whereby the Tennessee Court of Appeals affirmed the judgment of the lower court. Alattiyat v. Qasqas, 2017 Tenn. App. LEXIS 739 (W2016-00855-COA-R3-CV). June 2018: Obtained a verdict in the Arkansas Claims Commission for $115,000.00 in damages from the Arkansas Department of Transportation in a claim of negligence. September 2020: Obtained a conviction for the murder of an off-duty police officer in the Circuit Court of Crittenden County, Arkansas. The defendant fired 23 shots at a group of teens standing outside an apartment in West Memphis, Arkansas; one round entered an apartment, killing an off-duty police officer. The defendant was convicted of all charges and sentenced to 2 life terms plus 835 years. January 2022: Obtained a conviction for First Degree Murder in the Circuit Court of Crittenden County, Arkansas. The defendant fired several shots at two other persons, killing one and wounding the other in West Memphis, Arkansas. The jury convicted the defendant and sentenced him to 3 life terms plus 290 years. |
